Welcome to the most exciting breed ever created. The American Pitbull Terrier. Known for its courageous attitude towards life and death, it’s masculinity, and loving personality.

Pitoogle.com is a reference site for pitbull dogs, pitbull puppies, pitbull kennels, and different bloodline specific pitbulls.

The Pit Bull can be one of the greatest house pets you’ve ever owned. There very loyal, smart animals, and if trained properly, make an excellent companion. Probably the most important part of training a pitbull puppy is socializing it.
Socializing you Pitbull puppies is essential to there future behaviors and aggresion towards other dogs.
To socialize your Pitbull puppy you must bring it around other puppies, so it understands not to show aggression towards them. Make sure you correct there behavior if they do wrong, like trying to fight the other puppies.
Once your Pitbull dog gets older, you must still keep a VERY close eye on them when playing with other dogs. Sometimes they may act on there primal instincts, and because there so powerful, they can easily maul another dog.

Proper excerise is also very important. Pitbull dogs are meant to be active. They were trained years ago to undergo extreme excerises, so they enjoy it. A mile or two walk a day is great for them, also a fenced in area where they can run free is good too. Just make sure the fence is tall, Pitbull dogs have been known for there amazing leaps!

Your Pitbull Dogs food is another important aspect you need to be aware of before buying a pitbull puppy. Cheap dog gfood will suffice, but buying a good dog food will ensure they have a long, healthy life. If your dog is extremely active, use a high protein diet.

SAN BENITO - Barbara Stanzler wanted to leave her dog at a local animal shelter after worrying that the animal was too strong for her to handle.

“But I couldn’t do it,” Stanzler said. “I was just taken by him.”

Stanzler, 58, has owned her pitbull, Bandit, for nearly five years now, her first pet since childhood.

But Stanzler knew her high-energy dog needed proper care. So she enrolled him in obedience school and also had him neutered, which she said helped with his aggressive tendency.

Now, Stanzler walks Bandit two miles each day, one mile in the morning and one mile in the evening.

“My doctor said it’s keeping me healthy, too,” she said.

Many people believe pitbulls are vicious dogs and should be banned. But owners say they aren’t instinctively dangerous and the bad reputation is undeserved.

Stanzler said Bandit hasn’t displayed any bad habits over the years, but she understands that there is a negative association with the breed - something she attributes to people who raise the breed for dogfights or are abusive to them.

While some owners control their pitbulls, the San Benito Animal Hospital often sees owners bring in injured dogs.

“The majority of the time, we see people bring in their dogs after being hurt during a fight with another dog,” Raul Gaitas, veterinarian assistant, said.

Juan Torres, another veterinarian assistant at the hospital, said he believes misconceptions of the animal can be seen in the media and entertainment business. The pitbull breed attracts teenagers, mostly because of what they’ve seen in magazines and on television, he said.

“That’s what makes young people, especially teenagers, want to buy it,” Torres said. “It makes them feel macho.”

Anyone can own a pitbull, Gaitas said, but they first should educate themselves about the animal’s needs, such as diet and exercise.

The animal should not be tied up, and should receive only dog food to provide the correct nutrition, Gaitas said.

People must also know how to respond to the animals, because people often misinterpret the dog’s actions, Gaitas said.

“So people hit the dog because they don’t know the energy level,” Gaitas said.

Stanzler said she understands when people seem scared of her dog, but she also works at making sure Bandit is social and open to meeting new people.

“But if I’m walking him, I won’t purposefully go up to people or other dogs,” she said.

And, Gaitas said, sometimes people have difficulty distinguishing a pitbull.

“A lot of times people who say they’ve been bitten by pitbulls are actually bitten by mixed breeds or other dogs,” Gaitas said.

The American Kennel Club considers the term “pitbull” to be a generic descriptor for a type of dog - much the same as “hound” or “terrier,” said Daisy Okas, the organization’s assistant vice president of communications.

The origins of these bulldog-terriers date back to the early 19th century when they were used for bull baiting and dogfighting in the United Kingdom, according to an AKC news release.

In 1835, the sport of dog fighting became illegal in England, but there were people who didn’t want to lose the breed.

So they set about preserving these dogs by eliminating undesirable characteristics and accentuating the qualities that made them ideal companion animals, the AKC news release said.

The three breeds that emerged and that are recognized by the AKC today are the American Staffordshire Terrier, Staffordshire Bull Terrier and Bull Terrier, Okas said. All are the result of more than a century of careful breeding for solid temperament.

Jon Perales, a veterinary assistant at the San Benito animal hospital, said he owned a pitbull, but decided to give the dog away when new neighbors moved in next door.

“They had a lot of kids, and I just didn’t want to be put in that situation,” Perales said.

Perales said it’s in the breed’s nature to be high energy and have high prey ability, meaning it instinctually wants to chase anything on which it becomes fixated.

“They may not be attacking, but they just react because of their high-prey level,” he said.

Perales said at times, people might mistake the high energy as aggression, but people must exercise the animal and make sure they socialize it as a puppy.

“The animal should not be tied up; they need exercise,” Perales said. “All you have to be is firm and let them know you’re in charge.”

Stanzler says Bandit does make her feel safe because he’s a powerful dog, but she said she knows it’s her responsibility to control him.

“I wish people had a better understanding of the dog,” Stanzler said. “Yes, they’ve been known to injure, even kill people. I know that. But, Rottweilers have that same history.

“When people try to make the dogs mean, it happens.”
